Pussypaws Puppetry

Pussypaws Puppetry is an inclusive troupe of 60+ artists with and without disabilities who come together to create puppet shows from scratch and have fun. They are guided by the puppets and the spirit of pleasure and play.

During their residency at Summertime, Pusspyaws’ inclusive puppet making team created over 100 puppets for their production That Paradise Place, an erotic puppet musical about the love, sex, and fantasy lives of artists with disabilities. Their creations included giant tin foil robot dinosaurs, bisexual demon daddies, whipped cream boobs, and a towering Miss Piggy head.

In a culture that often overlooks the internal worlds and erotic desires of people with disabilities, Pussypaws has formed a creative community where all facets of our humanity are worthy of being seen, sung, and celebrated. Summertime is ecstatic to help promote their radical celebration of sexual liberation, disability justice, and puppet pleasure!

That Paradise Place’s three performances sold out before opening night, inviting viewers into the wild and sparkling erotic fantasies of human beings whose sexualities deserve recognition and celebration.

Cheers to Kenneth Youngblood, Jenna Zacharia, Lauren McArthur, Emma Singer, Gabriella Sofia, Oswald Saenz, Tristan Higginbotham, Margot Werner, Dave Ercolini, Dean Millien, Priscilla Frank, Alana Hauser, and Chris Chronopoulos.

This residency is generously supported by Rockefeller Brothers Fund, National Endowment for the Arts, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and New York Department of Cultural Affairs.
