DESCRIPTION: Studio Hours is a class where artists can pursue their wildest creative passions without sacrificing their unique voices and perspectives. Artist mentors work directly with artists to expand their processes, experiment with new media, and hone their creative voices. We don't teach "the right way," but work with you to find "your perfect way," creating a space where boundless creativity can flourish. Studio Hours artists have designed T-shirts, made puppets, written auto-biographies, sculpted their pets, and so much more. Whatever your creative dreams may be, we provide the structure and support to help you achieve them, one step at a time. During Studio Hours, artists can make whatever they want to make. Our job is to help you get there. Join us today!

CURRICULUM:
Session 1: Where You Are
Mentors work with artists to establish where they are in their creative process and journey. They will conduct a portfolio review to better understand the artists’ interests, media, styles, and passions.
Session 2: Dreaming Your Future
Mentors work with artists to explore potential areas for growth and experimentation in their practice. Changes may include exploring a new medium or technique, or incorporating the influence of another artist. Together artists and mentors develop a personalized plan for the remainder of the session.
Session 3: Back To Basics
Artists examine their artmaking practice from a new perspective, incorporating some of the changes agreed upon with the artist mentor. Mentor and artist discuss how these changes feel and whether the artist is excited about these developments.
Session 4: Blossom + Grow
Artists continue developing their practice based upon the modifications established in Week 2. If any parts of the process don’t feel like a good fit, they will work with mentors to reassess, ensuring their excitement about the direction. Mentors will order new supplies and provide additional inspiration as needed.
Session 5: Artist 2 Artist
The studio will divide into pairs so that artists can provide direct feedback to one another and learn from each other’s unique ways of creating. Artists will be teachers and leaders as they provide encouragement and constructive feedback to their peers.
Session 6: Outside Influence
The studio will go out into the community for a creative excursion, tailored to fit the artists’ creative paths and interests. The outing will be voted upon by the group to ensure that everyone is enthusiastic about the choice.
Session 7: Integration
Artists will return to the studio following their excursion and take in what they learned. The class will reflect upon ways that the outing influenced their practice and how they will move forward.
Session 8: Guest Teacher
A guest artist will visit the studio for a session that will introduce a new technique to the group. This artist will be selected based upon the interests and aesthetics of the artists enrolled. They will lead a hands-on workshop to expose artists to new techniques and perspectives.
Session 9: Integration
Artists will return to their individual practices, processing and integrating the new takeaways gleaned from the guest teacher.
Session 10: Crystallization
Students will hone in on a particular piece, technique, or direction as their primary goal for the session. Mentors will meet individually with artists to assess what would be helpful in supporting students in meeting this goal.
Session 11: Ask an Artist
Artists will turn to one another to seek council, share tips and tricks, and support one another. Summertime will also invite outside artists to participate in this creative support group.
Session 12: Creative Push
Artists will complete one element of their creative goal in anticipation of the end of the session. This may be the end of a single piece, a series, a product, an artist talk or lesson, or a more abstract “press pause” moment in a creative evolution. Artists will decide one element of their practice to display in the final presentation.
Session 13: Final Presentation
Artists will present their final piece to the rest of the group and wider Summertime community. Artists and mentors will decide whether to present a pop-up exhibition or more experimental showcase of artists’ work.
Session 14: Reflection, Processing, and Recentering
Artists will provide feedback on one another’s progress. Mentors will work with artists to reflect on the progress made throughout the session and, if the artist wants to continue, where they may choose to focus next. Mentors will suggest additional resources and pathways within and beyond Summertime to nourish the artist’s growth.
