PUPPET AUDITIONS

Come join our puppet troupe!

We’re looking for puppet makers, performers, stage hands, singers, dancers and general puppet enthusiasts to join Pussypaws Puppetry and put on a puppet musical in early November of 2024.

A reminder! That Paradise Place is a collaborative, experimental, erotic puppet musical about the love, sex, and fantasy lives of artists with disabilities. The show, to be performed at Abrons Art Center, will be made from start to finish by a community of artists defined by a shared passion. One of these artists could be you!

Troupe auditions will be held on March 6 from 5pm - 9pm at Summertime Gallery. Mark your calendars! Email thatparadiseplace@gmail.com to sign up. If you can’t make it in person, send in a video or reach out to us.

If you want to audition, simply come to Summertime prepared to share a little about yourself, the role(s) you're interested in, and any experience you have in the field. You can bring sample artworks, sing a song, or simply come ready to talk. The auditions will be super informal and fun, so no need to be nervous, though butterflies are welcome.

Check out the roles we are looking for below! You can try out for more than one. All artists will be paid a small honorarium for their time and commitment and people of all backgrounds and abilities are encouraged to apply!

Assistant Director
Are you a visionary leader with a passion for performance? We’re looking for a good listener, devoted creative, and team player to assist our Artistic Director throughout the full journey of this raucous creation.

Performers + Puppeteers
Are you an actor, dancer, mover and shaker? Do you dream of performing under bright lights in a real, New York City theater? Please audition to be a puppeteer in the show! Puppeteers will be performing on stage in two epic performances. They will need to be available for rehearsals three times a week in September and October, and a week of final rehearsals and showtimes in November.

Artists + Puppet Makers
Are you a sculptor, seamstress, or set designer extraordinaire? Do you have a creative fire inside you looking for a chance to make friends and get freaky? Join our residency program to design and create larger than life puppets, masks, costumes, and sets from a variety of materials. The residency will take place from April through August at Summertime in Brooklyn, and artists are required to attend at least two times a week. We will be working collaboratively toward a shared fantastical vision. Supplies and space will be provided.

Stage Hands
Do you love to work behind the scenes to make magic happen? Are you organized and cool under pressure? You sound like a stagehand! Help us manage set changes, props, costumes, and all that jazz. Stagehands are required to participate in rehearsals two times a week in October and a week of final rehearsals and showtimes in early November.

Singers and Musicians
Do you have music in your bones? Are you a singer, rapper, drummer, pianist, or tambourine wiz? We need your musical skills in our original songs! Musicians will work for two to four days rehearsing and recording with our musical coordinator. Perfect pitch not required!
